Bearcats Fall to SBU 3-2
MARYVILLE, Mo.-For the second consecutive game the Northwest Missouri State soccer team played in rain, wind and sloppy conditions. Northwest was defeated Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Pitch 3-2 by Southwest Baptist.
The Bearcats carried a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to Kelly Obley's second goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Obley punched in the goal off of her own rebound that SBU goalkeeper Paige Hemphill deflected. SBU tied the score in the 55th minute when Ashley Creason netted her fifth goal of the year off of a pass on a two-on-one break from Brittany Ready.
Andrea Freeman briefly gave Northwest the lead back when she scored on a free kick with a beautiful shot to the upper corner. Southwest Baptist would then score twice in less than a minute and a half to give them a 3-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
Kelsey Adams made eight saves for Northwest in the loss while Hemphill saved six shots. Northwest out-shot SBU 15-14 and also had 12 corner kicks to SBU's three in the game.
Northwest (1-5-2, 1-4-1 MIAA) will next head to Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday for a game with the Mavericks at 4 p.m.
