Third overtime game results in second draw
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-Two teams looking for their first win of the season settled for a draw as rivals Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western played to a 1-1 tie Saturday at Spratt Stadium.
It's the second draw of the season for the Bearcats (0-2-2, 0-1-1 MIAA) who have played three double overtimes in four games. Northwest junior Kelly Obley scored off a corner kick from freshman teammate Anna Calgaard with 14 seconds left in the first half for the game's opening goal. It was the second collegiate goal for Obley, first this season, and first collegiate assist for Calgaard.
Missouri Western got its goal in the 66th minute when Jessica Martin drilled a shot from 35 yards out and into the back of the net. It was the first goal of the season for Martin and first for the Griffons in three games.
Northwest had a 6-4 shot advantage in overtime and had three looks in just over a minute towards the end of the first overtime. Calgaard took two of the shots and Griffon goal keeper Jenna Weis made a game-saving stop on the first to reach double overtime. Obley had a chance at a second goal midway through overtime number two, but Weis' made her sixth and final save of the match.
Kelsey Adams made seven saves as Northwest's keeper. The Bearcats have allowed one goal in each of their first four games.
