Central Ends Its Drought Against Northwest
WARRENSBURG, Mo.-Alyssa Rhodes and Kayla Shain scored their first goals of the season to help lift Central Missouri to a 3-1 win against Northwest Missouri State Thursday at UCM's Recreation Complex.
It was the first win for the Jennies against Northwest in three matches. The Bearcats had shutout Central Missouri for more than 243 minutes dating back to last season. The two teams dueled to a scoreless tie earlier this season in Maryville.
Rhodes' goal was the only score of the first half. Shain made it 2-0 in the 57th minute. Kelsey Sanders rifled a shot into the back of the net less than five minutes later to reduce the lead back to one. It was Sanders' fourth goal this season.
Cara Hennahane added an insurance goal with less than six minutes to play. Central Missouri is the second team to tally three goals against the Bearcats in 19 games this season.
Kira Lazenby stopped nine shots on goal for the Bearcats (11-7-1, 7-7-1 MIAA). Lauren Bamvakais made six saves to earn the win for the Jennies (12-5-2, 11-3-1).
