Bearcats Beat Hornets 1-0 in Frigid Temperatures
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State forward Andrea Tritz' fifth goal of the season and 13th of her career was the difference in a 1-0 Bearcat win against Emporia State on a cold and blustery day at Bearcat Pitch Saturday. It's the ninth win for Northwest this season, which is one shy of the program record.
Andrea Freeman was credited with her first assist of the season on Tritz's goal, which came in the 71st minute. The Bearcats out shot Emporia State 15-4 and had four corner kicks to two for the Hornets.
Northwest goalkeeper Kira Lazenby needed to make just one save to help the Bearcat defense record its seventh shutout of the season. Lazenby has allowed nine goals in 13 games this season and extended her program record for career shutouts to 15.
Tritz's goal moves the senior from Sioux City, Iowa, into a tie for second place on Northwest's career goals scored list. Beth Gutschenritter holds the all-time record with 17.
Northwest (9-3-1, 5-3-1 MIAA) will next travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman Oct. 15. The Bearcats have never defeated the Bulldogs and lost 2-1 to Truman in Maryville back on Sept. 12.
