Bearcats Lose on the Road for the First Time
ST JOSEPH, Mo.-Missouri Western forward Desi Swanson scored her first two goals of the season in a 2-0 win against Northwest Missouri State Thursday at Spratt Stadium. It's the first-ever win for the Griffons against the Bearcats in 10 tries.
Northwest (7-2, 3-2 MIAA) lost for the first time in four games and the first time on the road this season. The Bearcats were out shot 12-9 and placed four shots on goal. Missouri Western (4-5, 2-3) tied its season record for wins.
Swanson scored in the 10th and 69th minutes. Her first goal came on a wide open shot from the right side of the box. Jessica Martin was credited with the assist. Swanson's second goal was drilled between the legs of Bearcat keeper Kira Lazenby. It's the second time Northwest has allowed two goals this season.
The Bearcats' best chance to tie the game came early in the second half on a free kick from Heidi Sobota from just outside the box. Her shot sailed high of the bar. Northwest placed one shot on goal in the second half.
