Bearcats Face-off Against Missouri Southern
Maryville, Mo-The Bearcat soccer team will be in Joplin tonight to compete against the Missouri Southern Lions. Missouri Southern is 0-2 in MIAA conference play. Northwest's conference record is 1-1 after scoring a season high three goals against Missouri Western on Sept. 12.
The Lions graduated Nikki Llewellyn who received all-conference honors last season. Llewellyn holds career records for goals, total points, and game-winning goals at Missouri Southern. Last season Northwest defeated Missouri Southern in their first meeting 1-0, and lost 1-2 in double overtime in the second game.
Senior Kira Lazenby holds the Northwest program record for career shutouts after recording her most recent shutout against Northeastern State (Okla.). Junior Heidi Sobota scored her first goal as a Bearcat against Truman State and her second the following game in the Bearcats' win against Missouri Western. Senior Sara Meidlinger has scored in two of the last three games.
Missouri Southern lost their most recent game at Southwest Baptist. The lions tied the match up to send it into overtime, but SBU finalized the win in the second overtime with a goal.
The last time the Bearcats won a game at Missouri Southern was in '03. Northwest is 8-9-2 all-time against the Lions.
