Bearcats Top Rival-Griffons 3-1
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State scored a season-high three goals, including two in the second half to beat Missouri Western 3-1 Saturday at Bearcat Pitch.
Northwest senior Sara Meidlinger scored her second goal of the season five minutes into the match. She also led the fast break on the Bearcats' third goal, hitting Kelsey Sanders on the right side of the box and from there to Andrea Tritz on the left who netter her 10th goal as a Bearcat.
Jessica Martin tied the game for the Griffons with her team-leading fourth goal of 2009. Abby Widrig was denied by Northwest goalkeeper Kira Lazenby on a one-on-one, but Martin was there for the rebound and the easy putback. The game remained 1-1 at halftime.
Northwest out shot Missouri Western 15-6 in the second half and took the lead on a one timer by Heidi Sobota. Shannon FitzGerald was credited with the assist. It was the first game-winning goal by Sobota and her second in as many games.
Tritz goal followed less than five minutes later in the 57th minute. Tritz moved into a tie for fourth place on the Bearcats' all-time goals list.
