Braun Named MIAA Player of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior defender Jessica Braun has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the period ended Sept. 6.
Braun has headed a defensive unit that went more than 500 minutes without allowing a goal dating back to last season. The Bearcats' string of shutouts reached five games before St. Mary's second-half goal Sunday. Northwest has allowed one goal in four games this season.
Northeastern State and St. Mary's combined to put six shots on goal in 180 minutes last week. Braun and the Bearcats topped both teams 2-0 and 2-1, respectively, to remain undefeated at 4-0.
Braun is expected to surpass 5,000 minutes in playing time for the Bearcats Thursday in the team's MIAA opener against Truman (Bearcat Pitch, 4 p.m.). She's played more minutes than any player in program history.
