Bearcat Soccer Moves to 4-0
SAN ANTONIO, Texas-Northwest Missouri State got first half goal from Sara Meidlinger and Kelsey Sanders and held off St. Mary's for a 2-1 win Saturday at St. Mary's Field. The win moves the Bearcats to 4-0. It was the first goals of the season for both Northwest players.
Carolina Hernandez's header 50 seconds in the second half brought the Rattlers within one. It was the first goal allowed Northwest and goalkeeper Kira Lazenby in more than 500 minutes dating back to last season. The Bearcats recorded five shutouts in that span.
St. Mary's fired two other shots in the final 44 minutes of the contest, none of which were on goal. The Bearcats out shot the Rattlers 12-5.
Meidlinger scored from 30 yards out in the ninth minute of the first half. Sanders drilled one from 25 yards out three minutes before halftime. Sanders has a game-winning goal and has assisted on two other game-winning goals this season.
The Bearcats return to Maryville and will host Truman to begin MIAA play Thursday at 4 p.m.
