The Start to a Great Beginning
-Jacque Dedovesh, Sophomore, D, Soccer
We just completed the first weekend of games for the 2009 women's soccer team. I think I can speak for the team that we were all excited, but nervous. Personally, I was looking forward to the weekend of playing Oklahoma and Newman because I had been out for the past two weeks due to my strained quad.
I was ready to go on Saturday, and ended up going in and playing. It was the first game I haven't started at Northwest, but I was confident our defense was ok because I knew that freshman Meredith Cummings was ready for the challenge.
Being the first game back, I wasn't prepared for double overtime, but I made it through and was very proud of freshman Amanda Bundrant netting the game-winning goal. I played with Amanda prior to arriving at Northwest and I'm thrilled to have her as a teammate this season. Sunday, was a lot less stressful then the day before, and the team ended up winning 1-0.
Monday was school and I was not excited to begin school work, but I'm ready for the routine of school and soccer. My classes shouldn't be too bad. I think some will require a lot of hard work, but I'll get through it.
We leave Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for our trips to Oklahoma and San Antonio and have an early practice at 6:30 a.m. before we go. We play Northeastern State Thursday and St. Mary's Saturday. I am not excited for the long bus ride, but I am excited for the bonding with the team and playing somewhere new and different. The weather will be a factor we'll have to deal with, since it is going to be a little warmer than what we're used to. To prepare for this, we practiced Tuesday with sweats on.
Missing school will be a challenge when I get back, but my teachers are very supportive and understanding. The team of 2009 is expecting to bring back 2 more wins to Bearcat Nation Monday for a record of 4-0. Wish us luck!!
