Northwest Wins Opener in Double Overtime
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State freshman Amanda Bundrant scored her first collegiate goal in the second minute of double overtime to lift the Bearcats to a 1-0 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday at Bearcat Pitch in the season opener for both teams.
Kelsey Sanders dribbled past a defender on the right side of the box and sent a cross to Bundrant, who was all alone on the left. Bundrant beat Bulldog keeper Katie Mahoney to net the game-winner. It was the 22nd shot Mahoney faced during the match. She finished with 12 saves.
Northwest goalkeeper Kira Lazenby stopped two shots to record her ninth career shutout, tying her with Kathie Leach for the most in program history. Lazenby needed 20 games in a Bearcat uniform to reach the mark.
Newman topped Missouri Western 3-1 in the second match of the Bearcat Classic Saturday. Northwest and Newman square off Sunday at 3:30 p.m
