Hoza Signs Cummings for 2009

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Merydeth Cummings, a 5-10 defender under Papillion-La Vista South Head Coach and former Bearcat soccer player Melissa (Cole) Ingwerson, signed a National Letter of Intent with the Northwest Missouri State soccer program. Cummings is the fourth member of the 2009 recruiting class for Head Coach Tracy Hoza.

"Merydeth is a very versatile player," said Hoza. "She is extremely skilled and will add a lot of depth to our back line. We are very excited to recruit a player that is coached by a former Bearcat player."

Cummings played as a midfielder, goalkeeper and defender, but will likely focus as a defender at Northwest. She is a two-time honorable mention all-state player (2007, 2009) and the Papillion South Co-Defender of the Year. She played up one age group during her 2006 and 2007 club seasons for Gretna Remix and Head Coach David "Digger" Hawkins. She also advanced to the Nebraska State Cup semifinals as a member of Papillion Magia-Velocita's club team back in 2005.

Cummings was a three-year participant in the Olympic Development Program for the Nebraska state team and was selected to train in the progressive pool in 2005. In 2008, she was a member of the first Nebraska ODP team to win the Region II tournament.

Cummings was also a member of the National Honor Society at Papillion-La Vista South and won five national journalism awards as Editor In Chief of the high school newspaper, "The Torch". She intends to work toward a degree in journalism at Northwest.
