Lazenby Named MIAA Player of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior goalkeeper Kira Lazenby has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the period ended Nov. 9. It's the first such honor for Lazenby, a native of Payson, Utah.
Lazenby posted two shutouts against regionally- and nationally-ranked squads to help the Bearcats end the year with the most win in the program's history (10).
She faced 11 shots and made three saves to earn the win in Northwest's 1-0 home decision over then-No. 6 Central Missouri Thursday (Nov. 6). It was the Jennies' first conference loss of 2008.
In a 2-0 win Saturday (Nov. 8) against Southwest Baptist, not only did Lazenby face six shots and make two saves -- she scored the game-winning goal. Lazenby took a free kick at midfield in the 54th minute and put it in the net. It was the first and only goal scored by an MIAA goalkeeper this season.
Lazenby finished with eight shutouts this season, a program record. She started 19 of 20 games, made 92 saves and had a 0.88 goals against average (17 goals in 19 games).
