Rematch With the Champs
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (8-8-2, 4-8-2 MIAA) host the sixth-ranked Central Missouri (15-1-1, 13-0-1) Jennies at 2 p.m. today at Bearcat Pitch.
The Jennies have clinched their first outright MIAA titles after sharing one with Truman last season. Central Missouri had won all 13 conference games before tying Truman 2-2 in Kirksville last weekend.
Central Missouri's lone loss came in its second game of the season in late August. The Jennies since are unbeaten in their last 15 matches, surrendering seven goals in that span, including the two to Truman.
Northwest dropped a 1-0 decision in Warrensburg to Central Missouri back on Oct. 2. The Bearcats out shot the Jennies in the first half, but Cara Hennahane's goal in the 67th minute proved to be the difference. Central Missouri had a 12-3 shot advantage in the second half.
The Bearcats are one win away from tying the program's single-season record and have two games left to get it. Northwest's best finish since starting its program in 1999 was a 9-9-1 mark in 2006. The Bearcats started 6-1 this season and haven't fell below .500 all season.
In the spotlight this afternoon is a pair of junior forwards in Northwest's Andrea Tritz and Central Missouri's Melanie Hall. Tritz has eight goals this season, which ties Northwest's single-season record. Hall has 13 goals, the third-most in the MIAA.
