Homecoming Week Begins With Truman

Game Notes (.pdf)

MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State soccer team hosts 25th-ranked Truman at 4 p.m. Thursday in the first of two home games for the Bearcats slated for homecoming week. Northwest hosts Washburn Saturday.

The Bearcats (7-4-2, 3-4-2 MIAA) will play five of their final seven games at Bearcat Pitch after playing six of their first nine league games on the road.

Northwest and Truman (9-3-1, 5-3-1) met back on Sept. 11 in the conference opener for the two teams in Kirksville. Both teams were undefeated heading into the contest. A Megan Buri goal 10 minutes into the second half was the difference in a 2-1 Truman victory.

The Bulldogs won their first eight games of 2008 and climbed as high as four in the national rankings. One win in their last five games has dropped the team to No. 25.

Northwest has allowed 10 goals in nine conference games, but has just three wins for its work. The offense has been shutout in four of its last six games after scoring 14 goals in the team's first seven games.

Freshman Kelly Obley broke the scoring drought last weekend with a game-tying goal against Emporia State. It was the first score of Obley's young career and it helped the Bearcats work a 1-1 tie against the Hornets.

Sara Meidlinger scored the equalizer in Northwest's first meeting with Truman. It was an unassisted goal fired over goalkeeper Denise Childress and into the top left corner of the net. It was the second goal allowed by the Bulldogs in their first five games.

Both team's offenses exchanged rallies in the first half, but Truman controlled the game for much of the second.

After firing seven shots in the first half, Northwest mustered just two in the second. The final shot by either team came with more than 15 minutes left in the second half. Kira Lazenby had a game-high six saves for the Bearcats.
