Second-Half Goals Lift Washburn Past Northwest
TOPEKA, Kan.-Washburn scored three goals in the second half to break a scoreless tie and beat Northwest Missouri State Thursday at Yager Stadium. It's the first time this season the Bearcats (7-4-1, 3-4-1) have allowed three goals in a game and second time the team has surrendered more than one.
Ashley Taylor scored the game-winner less than a minute into the second half. Danielle Ayala fired a cross into the box and found Taylor for the score. Ayala had two of the Lady Blues' three assists.
Lauren Henry scored in the 64th minute to make it 2-0 and Nicole Tomes added the third with less than nine minutes left to play. It was the first collegiate goal for Tomes.
Andrea Tritz and Amanda Deml combined to take six of the Bearcats' eight shots and were responsible for all five shots on goal. The Lady Blues (7-5-1, 3-4) had an 18-8 shot advantage in the contest.
Next Up: Northwest continues its road trip Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest at Emporia State.
