Central Wins Dual of Top Defenses
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The top two defensive teams in the MIAA played true to form Thursday as Central Missouri beat Northwest Missouri State 1-0 at Jennies Field. The Jennies (8-1-1, 6-0 MIAA) haven't allowed a goal in three games and has six shutouts in 10 games this season.
Cara Hennahane scored the game winner 20 minutes into the second half to keep the Jennies unbeaten in conference play. The teams combined for six shots in the first half and 10 shots on goal in 90 minutes. Hazel Cox assisted on Hennahane's second goal of the season.
Northwest (6-3-1, 2-3-1) held Central to two shots in the first half despite the Jennies taking six corner kicks. The tide turned in the second half where the Bearcats were outshot 12-3.
Kira Lazenby made six saves for the Bearcats, but was denied her sixth shutout of 2008. She's allowed five goals in nine starts and more than 800 minutes this season. The Bearcats have allowed six goals all season.
