MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior goalkeeper Kira Lazenby set a single-season program record by recording her fifth shutout of the season in a 0-0 tie with Missouri Western Thursday at Bearcat Pitch. Lazenby surpasses Alison Sheridan and Kathie Leach, who totaled four shutouts in 2006 and 2001, respectively.

Neither team could score although more than 50 shots were taken in the contest. The Bearcats fired a season-high 36 shots and put 17 on goal, but none found the back of the net. The Griffons placed four of their 18 shots on goal.

Northwest had three good looks at the net during a three-minute span in the middle of the first half. Two followed free kicks from Amanda Olah, but close-range headers from Kate Horvat and Holly Ramaeker found the lap of Griffon keeper Jenna Weis.

Moments later, Northwest had a 3-on-2 fast break, but couldn't capitalize on an open look from Andrea Tritz. Tritz and Ramaeker combined for 15 shots in the contest.

Olah nearly scored off a free kick in the 35th minute, but the shot went just high of the bar.

The Griffons got their best looks from Jessica Martin, who hit the crossbar in the first half and in the first overtime. She also put two shots on goal in the second overtime, but Lazenby made both saves.

Kelsey Sanders had a chance to win it at the end of regulation for Northwest, but her shot from the right side just missed the upper left-hand corner. Tritz had an open shot at the end of the first overtime that went straight to Weis.

Weis had a career-best 17 saves for the Griffons and was nearly given a win by Desi Swanson near the end of regulation. Swanson controlled a pass through traffic in the box, turned, fired and nearly caught the right-side of the goal.

Northwest had 30 shots to 12 for Missouri Western in the game's first 90 minutes. The Griffons had just one corner kick while Northwest took eight.

Lazenby is 5-1-1 on the year and has allowed just four goals in more than 700 minutes. She's faced 96 shots and made 32 saves this season.

Next Up: Northwest travels to Central Missouri Oct. 2 for a 7 p.m. contest in Warrensburg.
