Pair of 4-0 Teams Meet in Kirksville
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State passed its non-conference slate with flying colors, outscoring its opponents 9-1 and opening the season with four wins for the first time in program history. The Bearcats' reward - a team they've never beaten.
Northwest takes on 16th-ranked Truman at 4 p.m. today in Kirksville, Mo., in the MIAA opener for both teams. The Bearcats are 0-14 in their series with the Bulldogs and have posted four goals in the 14 games.
Truman has won eight of the nine championships in the history of MIAA women's soccer, which dates back to the Bearcats' inaugural season of 1999. The Bulldogs are 73-11 in conference play (.869).
Like Northwest, Truman has allowed one goal in its four games this season. Junior Riley Mahn leads the team with three goals and eight points. Three other players have posted two goals for the Bulldogs.
Freshman forward Andrea Tritz is the first Northwest player to score in four consecutive games. Tritz and Southwest Baptist's Rhiane Mitchell are the only players in the MIAA with five goals this season. Senior midfielder Holly Ramaeker has matched her career-best with two goals this season.
Junior goalkeeper Kira Lazenby will take her shot at stopping the Bulldogs. Lazenby has yet to allow a goal and has posted three shutouts this season.
Denise Childress will start at goal for Truman. She's played all 360 minutes this season, has 17 saves and has allowed one goal.
