2008 Soccer Schedule Released
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State soccer team and head coach Tracy Hoza have announced their 2008 fall schedule. The slate includes two games in Wichita, Kan., to start the year followed by the Bearcat Soccer Classic Sept. 5-7. Home-and-away series against the MIAA's other eight teams begins Sept. 11.
The Bearcats will play their season opener Aug. 30 against Southwestern Oklahoma on the campus of Newman University. Northwest will take on the host-Jets Aug. 31.
The following weekend sees Northwest's first home contests of the year. The Bearcats battle Northeastern Oklahoma Sept. 5 and Wayne State Sept. 7 as part of the Bearcat Soccer Classic at Bearcat Pitch.
Northwest begins conference play on the road against 2007 MIAA tournament champion Truman State Sept. 11. The Bearcats play three of their first four league games on the road.
Two of Northwest's first five conference games will be against rival-Missouri Western. The Bearcats travel to St. Joseph, Mo., two days after playing their conference opener at Truman. Northwest hosts the Griffons Sept. 25.
Nebraska-Omaha, new to the MIAA this season and an NCAA tournament team a year ago, makes its first trip to Maryville since 2000 on Oct. 4. A trip to Omaha to take on the Mavericks is Oct. 25.
Northwest will play five of its final seven games at home. Central Missouri, co-champions of the MIAA last season and also a tournament participant, visits Bearcat Pitch Nov. 6. The Bearcats will play their regular season finale Nov. 8 at home against Southwest Baptist.
Northwest won three of its last five games in 2007 and finished 6-11-1 overall and 5-8-1 in league play. The team returns seven of 11 starters including goalkeeper Lauren Hodgson and leading scorer Amanda Deml.
