Bearcats Wrap Up Season on the Road in Pair of Night Games
MARYVILLE - (Game Notes) Northwest Missouri State soccer (5-10-1, 4-7-1 MIAA) wraps up the 2007 season in a pair of night games on the road, traveling to Central Missouri (10-4-2, 8-3-1 MIAA) tonight and Missouri Western (4-13, 3-9) tomorrow. Both contests begin at 7 p.m.
The Bearcats split their final home games last weekend, upsetting No. 25 Missouri Southern on Oct. 19 before falling to Southwest Baptist 1-0 the following day. Krista Pollman scored her first career goal against the Lions in the 11th minute as Shannon FitzGerald picked up her second assist of the season with her corner kick. FitzGerald needs one more assist to move into top 10 career and season assist records.
Northwest goalkeeper Lauren Hodgson sports a 1.52 goals against average, the third highest mark in school season records. Hodgson is also the second player since 2000 to post back-to-back shutouts, with a 2-0 win over Emporia State and 1-0 victory against Missouri Southern.
The Jennies have dropped three of the past four games, and needed a penalty kick with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game with Emporia State to pull out the win in double overtime. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Casey leads the conference with a 0.74 goals against average, helped by four shutouts this season.
Missouri Western has won two of its past three games with wins over Emporia State on Oct. 20 and Southwest Baptist on Oct. 13. Goalkeeper Shaylynn Milbourn earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 18 after making 10 saves against Southwest Baptist for her third shutout of the season.
The Bearcats are unbeaten against the Griffons all-time with a 4-0-1 record, and are 1-0-1 when playing at Spratt Stadium. It will be the second contest on an artificial surface for Northwest this season, after tying at Washburn 1-1 on Oct. 12.
