Pollman's Goal Enough to Upset No. 25 Missouri Southern 1-0
MARYVILLE - (Box Score) Krista Pollman scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute to provide the game-winning goal as Northwest Missouri State soccer upset No. 25 Missouri Southern 1-0 today at Bearcat Pitch. The Bearcats extend their unbeaten streak to three games, matching the longest such streak in school history.
The win is the first against a ranked opponent since Oct. 15, 2005, when Northwest defeated No. 21 Missouri Southern 1-0.
Northwest (5-9-1, 4-6-1 MIAA) used a corner kick from Shannon FitzGerald to set up Pollman's goal at 10:51 in the first half. The Bearcats outshot the Lions (10-4-2, 6-4-1 MIAA) 13-4 in the first half and 24-13 throughout the entire game, allowing only three shots on goal.
Marti Trummer led the Bearcat offense with six shots to match her career high. Amanda Deml followed with five shots. Nine different Bearcats recorded a shot as Northwest improves to 12-1-2 since 2005 when recording 20 or more shots.
Lauren Hodgson made three saves and recorded her second straight shutout. She is tied for fifth in school season records and needs one more to move into a tie for third in career records.

The Bearcats close out their home schedule tomorrow, hosting Southwest Baptist in a 2 p.m. game. The game will be the last for four Northwest seniors, who will be recognized in pregame ceremonies.
