Bearcat Soccer Wins 2-1 Over Wayne State

MARYVILLE - (Box Score) Northwest Missouri State soccer scored once in each half and outshot Wayne State 23-4 on the way to a 2-1 victory at Bearcat Pitch this afternoon.

The Bearcats move to 1-5 while Wayne State remains winless at 0-4-2.

Amanda Deml scored her first goal of the season in the 10th minute off an assist from Andrea Freeman, the earliest goal in a game since Nov. 1, 2005. Wayne State tied the game in the 34th minute when Tiffani Kellerman scored from an assist by Sara Schwieger.

Krista Obley notched her first goal of the season in the 50th minute off an assist from a corner kick by Shannon FitzGerald. Obley moves into a tie for ninth in career records, tallying her fifth career goal.

Northwest outshot the Wildcats 23-4, allowing no shots in the second half. The Bearcats also improve to 7-2 when scoring against nonconference opponents at Bearcat Pitch since 2004.

Deml and Marti Trummer led both teams with four shots. Eight of the 11 Northwest starters recorded multiple shots.

The Bearcats return to MIAA play on Friday, welcoming Emporia State for a 2 p.m. game.
