Northwest Drops MIAA Opener 3-0 to Southwest Baptist
BOLIVAR, Mo. - (Box Score) Northwest Missouri State soccer dropped its MIAA opener in a 3-0 loss to Southwest Baptist on the road, allowing two goals in a 40 second span in the second half.
Northwest remains winless, dropping to 0-4 and 0-1 in MIAA play. Southwest Baptist picks up its first win since its season opener, improving to 2-3-1 and 1-1 in the MIAA.
Northwest recorded the five of the six opening shots in the game, with two provided Shannon FitzGerald. Southwest Baptist scored on its second shot, a header by Amber Vasquez in the 30th minute.
Southwest Baptist scored twice in the 63rd minute. Vanessa Roher scored off a corner kick from Amber Vasquze at 62:12, followed by Dominie Emmanuel at 62:52.
Krista Obley and Amanda Deml led Northwest with three shots apiece, while Andrea Freeman led with two shots on goal. Deml now moves into 10th on career shots with 58. Goalkeeper Lauren Hodgson made four saves for Northwest.
Vanessa Roher and Vasquez led the Southwest Baptist attackers with two shots each. Southwest Baptist split goalkeeing among three players, combining for four saves.
Northwest continues MIAA action tomorrow in a 4 p.m. match with Missouri Southern. The Lions suffered their first loss tonight, allowing two goals in the final six minutes in a 2-1 loss to Truman.
