Bearcat Soccer Travels to Northeastern (Okla.) State
MARYVILLE - (Match Notes) Northwest Missouri State soccer ventures to Oklahoma for the first time since 2000 to visit Northeastern (Okla.) State in a 2:30 p.m. match on Sept. 9.
The Bearcats dropped their home opener 2-1 against St. Cloud (Minn.) State on Aug. 31. Freshman Kelsey Sanders scored her first career goal in the 55th minute to even the score at 1-1, but a late goal in the 85th minute provided the Huskies a victory.
Wayne (Neb.) State was forced to postpone its match with Northwest scheduled for Sept. 2 because of medical conditions affecting team members. The match will be rescheduled, but a date has not been set. The match between Wayne State and St. Cloud State scheduled for Sept. 1 from Bearcat Pitch was cancelled.
Northwest has averaged 15 shots per match in two matches this season, ranking second in MIAA statistics. The Bearcats have outshot their opponents in each of the two matches.
Junior Amanda Deml shares the lead in three conference categories, averaging five shots, three shots on goal and half an assist per match this season. Her 53 career shots are four shy of cracking the top 10 in Northwest records.
Northeastern State remains winless this season, standing at 0-2-1 after spending the weekend at the Jennies Classic in Warrensburg, Mo. Northeastern State tied Central Missouri 2-2 on Aug. 31 and dropped a 1-0 decision to Truman on Sept. 2. Sunday's match will be the home opener for the RiverHawks, who went 3-3-3 at home last season.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams since Sept. 24, 2000, when the RiverHawks took a 4-0 victory in Edmond, Okla. The RiverHawks scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to seal the win.
