Bearcats Drop Home Opener 2-1 to St. Cloud State

MARYVILLE (Box Score) A late goal in the 85th minute by St. Cloud State’s Lisa Drossart pushed the Huskies to a 2-1 victory over Northwest Missouri State soccer today at Bearcat Pitch.

The Bearcats drop to 0-2 while St. Cloud State improves to 2-1.

St. Cloud State opened scoring in the 44th minute with Mary Sertich providing the assist for Ashely Herold. Northwest answered back in the 55th minute when freshman Kelsey Sanders drove in from the top of the box to notch her first career goal on an assist from junior Amanda Deml.

The Huskies used Drossart’s goal off a corner kick from Gabrielle Najera to go ahead with 5:28 remaining in the match.

Northwest out shot St. Cloud State 17-13, including a 12-4 margin in the first half. Deml led all players with seven shots, including five on goal. Herold led the Huskies with four shots and two on goal.

The Bearcats' next match will be in an more than a week, travelling to Northeastern (Okla.) State on Sept. 9 for a 2:30 p.m. match.
