Northwest Soccer Opens Home Schedule This WeekendMARYVILLE - (Match Notes) Northwest Missouri State soccer begins the home portion of the 2007 schedule on Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. vs. St. Cloud (Minn.) State and Wayne (Neb.) State on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. St. Cloud State and Wayne State will play each other in a neutral-site match on Sept 1 beginning at 1 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
Head Coach Tracy Hoza is 3-1 in home-openers since 2003 and carries a four-match winning streak against non-conference opponents at home since 2005.
In MIAA statistics through the first weekend of matches, senior midfielder Brittany Cash is tied for second in shots and shots on goal after leading the Bearcats with four shots against Upper Iowa. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hodgson is tied for third in conference statistics with a 1.00 goals-against-average.
The meeting with St. Cloud State will be the first between the two teams. The Huskies (0-1) were picked to finish seventh in the North Central Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Top returner will be sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Kelly, who won NCAA Freshman of the Year honors in 2006.
Wayne State (0-2) holds a 3-1-1 advantage over the Bearcats, after taking a 1-0 match from Northwest on Aug. 27, 2006. The Wildcats were chosen sixth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference preseason poll. In the first two matches of the season, Wayne State has managed 88.9-percent in shots on goal, recording eight of nine shots on target.
The match with Wayne State will be the second against an opponent from the NSIC, after the Bearcats opened the 2007 season at Upper Iowa.
