FAYETTE, Iowa--Candice Divoky scored the lone goal in a 1-0 Upper Iowa win against Northwest Missouri State Friday at rain-soaked Pattison Field. It was the season opener for the Bearcats.
Divoky's first goal of the season came in the 64th minute and was assisted on by Lauren Smith. Melissa Heitzman (1-0) got the start at goal and made nine saves for the Peacocks (2-0), who beat MIAA-foe Missouri Western 3-0 Thursday.
The Bearcats outshot their opponents 15-7 in the contest, including an 8-1 advantage in the first half. Brittany Cash and Andrea Freeman placed two shots on goal each. Lauren Hodgson (1-0) earned her first career start at goalkeeper and made two saves.
Northwest opened its season on the road for the seventh consecutive year and made its first-ever trip to Upper Iowa. The Bearcats had beaten the Peacocks in each of the 2005 and 2006 seasons in Maryville.
Next Up: Northwest will compete in its home opener Aug. 31 against St. Cloud State. Game time is 2 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
