2007 Recruiting Class Announced
MARYVILLE - Northwest Missouri State head women's soccer coach Tracy Hoza has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent today: Andrea Freeman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Kelsey Sanders (Edwards, Colo.) and Sterling Swayze (Kansas City, Mo.).
"This year's recruiting class is a very solid class with defenders, midfielders and forwards," Hoza said. "They're a very upbeat group that will add to our team next year both on and off the field. I'm very excited."
Freeman is a midfielder at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a First Team Mississippi Valley Conference selection in 2006 and earned all-state honorable mention honors the past two seasons. She also plays for the Heartland Tenacity Soccer Club. Freeman earned varsity letters in basketball, volleyball and track as well as being named to the Washington High School honor roll from 2004-06.
"Andrea is a very versatile player," Hoza commented. "She enjoys taking players on and going forward."
A senior forward at Battle Mountain (Colo.) High School, Sanders set the school season goal record with 30 in 2006. Last year, she earned first team all-league, honorable mention all-state, and academic all-state honors. In 2005, Sanders earned second-team accolades on the all-league and all-state squads. She is also a three-year honor roll student and member of the Vail Valley Soccer Club.
"We're looking forward to adding Kelsey in goal-scoring capabilities to our team next fall," Hoza said.
Swayze is a four-year varsity letter winner at the defender position at North Kansas City High School. She is a member of the Ajax-Future Select club soccer team. She is a three-year honor roll student and earned an academic letter in 2006.
"Sterling has earned a lot of respect and leadership," Hoza said.
Hoza also announced the intent of Heidi Sobota (Columbus, Neb.) to play for the Bearcat soccer squad next fall. Sobota is currently enrolled at Northwest Missouri State after transferring from Briar Cliff (Iowa) University.
A defender and midfielder at Briar Cliff, Sobota earned 2005 Great Plains Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, GPAC Second-Team All-Conference and Briar Cliff Playmaker of the Year. She scored nine goals and recorded eight assists for the chargers in 2005. A graduate of Scotus Central Catholic (Neb.) High school, Sobota earned first team all-state honors twice and academic all-conference honors in her final three seasons. In 2005, she was also named to the second team super-state team.
"Heidi will add tremendous strength in the defensive line," Hoza said. "She also has the ability to score and get assists too.
