Bearcats Close Out Season with 4-0 Loss To Truman
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (L 0-4) The most successful team in Northwest soccer history ended the 2006 season in 4-0 loss to Truman State today at Bearcat Pitch. The Bearcats end with a 9-9-1 record, finishing sixth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) with a 5-8-1 record. The .500 season record is the best winning percentage for a Northwest team in the 8-year history of the program.
Sophomore midfielder Shannon FitzGerald recorded a shot on goal in the 10th minute of play, helping the Bearcats outshoot the Bulldogs 6-5 in the first half. Sophomore defender Samantha Knuckles recorded the second shot on goal for the Bearcats in the 87th minute.
Truman was led by Jessica Wiegert, who scored twice and recorded one assist. The Bulldogs put up two within two minutes in the opening minutes of the second half. Truman tallied nine shots on goal in the second half after being held to three by the Northwest defense.
Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan recorded eight saves off 21 shots. Sheridan ends her Northwest career with over 5,407 minutes in the net during four years, a school record. The 25 goals allowed this year are the fewest by any Northwest team.
The Bearcats end their season setting new team records in wins (9), assists (22), goals (26), points (74) and corner kicks (91). Northwest held advantages in goals (+1), points (+2), and shots (+22) throughout the season, a first for each category in school history.
NOTES: Sheridan ends with 92 saves on the season, fifth in all-time season records … Northwest remains winless against Truman State, now standing 0-12 against the Bulldogs all-time … The loss today was the largest margin of defeat at home since Oct. 10, 2004, when Truman posted a 4-0 result … Northwest has posted its second consecutive winning record at home after going 6-3-1 at Bearcat Pitch this season. The Bearcats went 4-3-2 last year at home.
