Jackson Scores Record Third Penalty Kick Goal in 4-1 Loss to Southwest Baptist
BOLIVAR, Mo. - (L 1-4) Senior defender Amy Jackson recorded the only goal for Northwest Missouri State soccer in a penalty kick in the 55th minute, as Northwest fell to Southwest Baptist 4-1 on the road today. Jackson now holds the school season record for penalty kicks by an individual, surpassing the two scored by Janel Wegehaupt in 1999.
Northwest falls to 9-7, 5-6 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play. Southwest improves to 8-3-4, 6-3-2 in the MIAA.
Jackson's penalty kick was the only shot on goal for the green Bearcats, who amassed only four shots total. Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan made one save off nine shots.
Ann Meenagh scored three of the purple Bearcat goals, including a hat trick in the 68th minute to close out scoring for both teams.
Northwest will travel tomorrow to Joplin, Mo., to take on No. 24 Missouri Southern in a 2 p.m. match. The Bearcats defeated the Lions 1-0 in Maryville, Mo., on Sept. 16.
NOTES: Northwest is ranked 10th in the NCAA Central Region poll released Oct. 11 ... The four shots recorded by Northwest are the fewest since Sept. 27 against Central Missouri ... The four goals allowed by Northwest are the most since Nov. 6, 2005 against Missouri Southern ... Northwest's four penalty shot goals this season are more than the past six seasons combined (3 penalty shot goals from 2000-05).
