Bearcats Limit Washburn to Single Goal in 1-0 Loss
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (L 0-1) A goal in the 22nd minute by Jessica Mainz of Washburn was enough for the Lady Blues to win 1-0 at Bearcat Pitch this afternoon. The result mirrored the match played on Sept. 23 between the two teams at Topeka, Kan. Northwest drops to 8-6 and 4-5 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play. Washburn improves to 12-1-2, 7-1-1 in the MIAA.
Junior Krista Obley and sophomore Holly Ramaeker led Bearcat athletes with three shots each. Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan picked up nine saves off 15 shots.
Mainz and Jolene Silovsky each led Washburn with four shots, three of them on goal. Jenna Hatlestad recorded four saves off 13 shots from the Bearcats.
Northwest will be in action tomorrow to take on Emporia State at Bearcat Pitch. Start time is 3 p.m.
NOTES: Northwest is 0-3 against nationally ranked opponents, losing each by 1-0 results ... The Bearcats sit 10th in the NCAA Central Region rankings, Washburn is second ... Each meeting between Northwest and Washburn since 2004 has been decided by one goal or less ... With a 15-13 shot advantage, the Lady Blues have out-shot their opponents in every match this season.
