
MARYVILE, Mo. – (W 3-2) Northwest Missouri State soccer picked up a school record eighth win in a 3-2 victory over Missouri Western at Bearcat Pitch this afternoon. Northwest surpassed the seven wins posted in 2000, improving to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play. Missouri Western falls to 1-10-2 and 0-8-0 in MIAA play.
Senior forward Kayla Griffin put in two of the three Bearcat goals, scoring in the 13th and 50th minute. Griffin moves into a tie for fourth in season goals scored charts, and needs one to tie for second in career goals. Sophomore midfielder Shannon FitzGerald scored her fourth season goal at 43:18 after assisting on Griffin’s first goal of the match.
Sophomores Brittany Cash and Holly Raemaker each recorded an assist in today's match.
Missouri Western scored once in each half off goals from Meigan Soo and Kelly Olmstead. Goalkeeper Ashley Harrel recorded 13 saves of 25 shots.
Northwest will remain at home to take on Washburn Oct. 14 in a 2 p.m. match at Bearcat Pitch.
