Bearcats Tie Season Win Record in 1-0 Shutout of Missouri Western
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - (W 1-0) Northwest Missouri State soccer picked up a record-tying seventh victory off their fifth shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Missouri Western tonight. The Bearcats have matched the win record set in 2000 and the shutout record set in 2001.
Northwest improves to 7-5 and 3-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play. Missouri Western losses its seventh consecutive match, falling to 1-9-2 overall and 0-7-0 in the MIAA.
Senior midfielder Jamie Campbell scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 34th minute from an assist from sophomore midfielder Amanda Deml. Deml led all players with five shots for the second straight match, including two on goal. Sophomore midfield Shannon FitzGerald recorded four shots on goal to lead all athletes. The Bearcats out-shot the Griffons 20-9.
Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan picked up five saves off nine shots to move into sixth on MIAA career charts with 269. Sheridan also garnered her fourth season shutout, moving into a tie with Kathie Leach, who recorded four in 2001.
Northwest will welcome Missouri Western on Oct. 7 in an 11 a.m. match at Bearcat Pitch. It will mark the first home match for the Bearcats since Sept. 16.
