Bearcat Soccer Falls 1-0 to No. 16 Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan. - (L 1-0) A goal in the eighth minute by No. 16 Washburn off a corner kick was all that was needed, as Northwest Missouri State soccer fell 1-0 on the road this afternoon. The loss dropped the Bearcats to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). Washburn improves to 9-0-1 and 4-0-0 in MIAA play.
Sophomore midfielder Shannon Fitzgerald recorded the only shot on goal for Northwest at 82:50. The Bearcats were out-shot 3-12, with all three shots coming in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan picked up five saves on 12 shots, including four saves in the first half.
Keeley Lambeth of Washburn recorded her first goal of the season at 7:03 from a corner kick by Jolene Silovsky and assist from Lauren Schwindt. Ashley Taylor led all players with four shots.
Northwest will take on Emporia State tomorrow, Sept. 24, for a 1:00 p.m. match.
NOTES: All three loses by Northwest this season have been by 1-0 results … The one goal scored by Washburn is the second time this season the Lady Blues have been limited to one goal … The three shots by the Bearcats are the fewest since two were attempted against Truman State on Oct. 8, 2005 … The four goals allowed by Northwest in the first eight matches of the season are the fewest in any eight-match span in school history … Northwest stands ninth in the Sept. 19 NSCAA/adidas Central Region rankings. Washburn sits second in regional rankings and 16th in national rankings.
