Northwest Earns Fourth Shutout of Season in 1-0 Victory Over Missouri Southern

MARYVILLE, Mo. - (W 1-0) Sophomore Holly Ramaeker scored her second goal of the season in the 24th minute to allow Northwest Missouri State to shutout Missouri Southern 1-0 at Bearcat Pitch today. The win marked the fourth shutout this season for the Bearcats, the most since five were recorded in the 2001 season.

Northwest, ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA/adidas Central Region poll, stands 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play. Missouri Southern, ranked sixth in the same poll, falls to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Ramaeker scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick from senior Megan Kruger. Kruger's assist is the first in her career. Junior forward Marti Trummer led Northwest players with three shots, enough to move her into a tie for fifth in school career standings with 78.

Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan picked up her sixth career shutout and third of the season. Sheridan's eight saves were the most since she recorded 11 against Washburn on Oct. 21, 2005. With 238 career saves, Sheridan moves to seventh in MIAA career charts.

Missouri Southern out-shot the Bearcats 18-11, with 14 coming the second half. Midfielder Nikki Llewellyn led all players with six shots.

Today's match marked the end of a five-match home stretch, as the Bearcats went 4-1, recording three shutouts. Northwest will play its next five on the road, opening at Washburn on Sat, Sept. 23, at 1:00 p.m.

NOTES: The Bearcats have won the last three matches against Missouri Southern when playing at home, all of them decided by one goal ... The five wins this season equal the most won by Coach Cross at Northwest, who won five last season ... The three shutouts in the past four matches are the most in that time span since Sept. 8-16, 2001 ... Missouri Southern's seven shot advantage marks the first time an opponent has recorded more shots than Northwest this season.
