Alison Sheridan Picks Up MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week Honors
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan (Blue Springs, Mo.) picked up Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Goalkeeper of the Week honors, announced by conference offices this afternoon. The honor is the second for Sheridan, who last earned the honor on Sept. 12, 2005. Sheridan picked up two consecutive shutout victories in the past week against Augustana (S.D.) on Sept. 4 and Upper Iowa on Sept. 9.
She recorded five saves on 10 shots for a 1-0 shutout victory against Augstana on Labor Day. Against Upper Iowa on Sept. 9, Sheridan made six saves on eight shots to allow the Bearcats a 2-0 victory. The two back-to-back shutout victories are the first for Northwest since 2000. She now stands second on Northwest career shutout charts with five.
Sheridan and the Bearcats will open their MIAA season at home against Southwest Baptist on Fri., Sept. 14, at 2:00 p.m. Southwest Baptist is ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA/adidas Central Region rankings, released Sept. 5.
