Bearcats Win Third Straight in Shutout of Upper Iowa
MARYVILLE, Mo. - (W 2-0) Northwest Missouri State soccer recorded their third shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Upper Iowa at Bearcat Pitch this afternoon. The current three-game win streak is the longest in school history, bringing Northwet to 4-1 on the season. With a 1-0 victory against Augustana (S.D.) on Sept. 4, the Bearcats mark their first back-to-back shutout victories since 2000.
Senior forward Kayla Griffin scored her fourth goal of the season in the 28th minute of play, moving into a tie for third in career charts for goals scored (10) and points (23). Senior defender Amy Jackson scored at 79:46, becoming the ninth player in school history to score a goal in consecutive matches. Junior forward Marti Trummer increased her lead in career assists, recording her ninth in an assist to Jackson.
Senior goalkeeper Alison Sheridan set a season-high mark with six saves. Sheridan stands second all-time in career shutouts with five, needing four to tie the career record.
Jennifer Lee for Upper Iowa led all players with four shots. Lee was one of three Peacocks to record a shot.
Northwest will open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play on Fri., Sept. 15, welcoming Southwest Baptist for a 2:00 p.m. match. Southwest is ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA/adidas regional rankings released Sept. 5.
