Northwest Ties NCAA Record with Ninth Overtime Against Southwest Baptist Taking the Win 2-1
Bolivar, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State ties NCAA record with nine overtimes in a season. The Bearcats faced Southwest Baptist today and took the win 2-1. The 'Cats mark the ninth double overtime of the season also.
The game remined scoreless in the first half. In the second half Southwest Baptist's Amy Swallow gets a cross kick assist from Allison Chapman to make the score 1-0 at 69:20.
Sophomore defender Sarah Hobson scores her third goal of the season in the 75th minute off of a header into the right side of the goal. The goal was assisted by Ashely Pollman and Krista Obley.
The Bearcats in double overtime won by Southwest's attempt to punt the ball out of the goal zone but hit A Southwest player and defected back into the goal. It is marked as Southwest Baptist scoring own goal for Northwest to win the game. The goal was scored at the 109:39 mark leaving 21 seconds left in double overtime.
Northwest will play the last game of the season at Missouri Southern State tomorrow afternoon Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. The 'Cats record as of today stands 5-7-5 overall and 4-5-4 in the MIAA.
