Northwest Loses Home Opener to UMR, 2-3
Maryville, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University had their first home game at Bearcat Pitch this afternoon. The 'Cats were up against the Lady Miners from Missouri-Rolla. Going into two overtimes the Bearcats lost 2-3.
Junior Beth Gutschenritter scored her second goal of the year within the first three minutes of the game taking the lead for the Bearcats, 1-0. Gutschenritter was assisted by Junior Kayla Griffin.
The 'Cats held the lead until Lady Miner Danielle Lyman scored at the end of the first half making it tied 1-1. Lyman once again scored at the 83rd mark to take the lead 2-1. Northwest's Sophomore Margaret Trummer tied the game 2-2 from a deflected goal attempt my Griffin, while Trummer head shot it into the goal with a minute left in the game.
The Bearcats fell short in double over time allowing Mara Byrd to score in the 102nd minute, ending the game with a 2-3 loss. Northwest will see more action on September 7th at Washburn. The next home game will be September 9 against Upper Iowa.
