Northwest Soccer Notches 2-2 Tie at Wayne State in Season Opener

WAYNE, Neb. - A goal by sophomore Margaret Trummer at the 47 minute mark was the equalizer and the score remained at 2-2 as the Northwest Missouri State soccer team opened up 2005 with a double overtime tie at Wayne State. It was the first double overtime match for the Bearcats since Oct. 17, 2003 versus Central Missouri and the first overtime match to begin a season since the program's inception in 1999.

Northwest struck first with a blast from junior Beth Gutschenritter at the 9:34 mark. With that score, Gutschenritter moved into sole possession of first place on the school's all-time points list with 35. Junior Jamie Campbell was credited with her first assist of the year.

Wayne earned two markers at the 27 and 42 minute marks to take a 2-1 lead. But, Trummer's second career goal gave Northwest the tie and the defense would hold the Wildcat offense for the remainder.

Senior Michelle Goold played all 120 minutes in the net as she posted four saves. The hosts held a slight 16-11 shots advantage. There were a combined 27 fouls whistled with Wayne committing 16.

Northwest returns home on Saturday, Sept. 3 with a match versus Missouri-Rolla. The match begins at 2 p.m. at the Bearcat Pitch.
