'Cats Fall to Minnesota-Duluth, 2-1
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, 2-1 on Sunday at Bearcat Pitch.
The Bearcats started the scoring off early as the 'Cats scored in the 8th minute. Northwest scored when a cross from Becky Marston (So., Cedar Falls, Iowa) went to the far post and Beth Gutschenritter (Fr., Omah, Neb.) kicked the ball into the left corner to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Minnesota-Duluth score the game tying goal. Neither team could find the back of the net again in the first half as they went to half time tied up at one.
The second half started off with both teams trying to take an early lead, but neither team could get anything by the goal keepers. Until UMD beat Bearcats goal keeper Danielle Lawless (Jr., Denison, Iowa) in the 71st minute to give them the game-winner, and go on for the 2-1 victory.
Northwest's record moves to 2-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the MIAA. The Bearcats return to Bearcat Pitch on Wednesday as the 'Cats play host to Missouri Southern at 3 p.m.
