Bearcats and Miners End in 1-1 Tie
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team and Univeristy Missouri-Rolla Miners ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action.
In the first half, the Miners controlled the action as they played with the wind at their back. Missouri-Rolla took 10 shots in the first half, but Beacat goal keeper Danielle Lawless (Jr., Denison, Iowa) kept the Miners out of the net. Lawless saw her first action of the season, and had 10 saves in the game, six in the first half.
In second half, Northwest was in the attack mode as they had the wind at their back. The Bearcats got on the board in the 58th minute when Rory Okey (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) stole a Miner pass, and beat the goal keeper to give the 'Cats a 1-0 led. Missouri-Rolla found the back of the net in the 71st minute to tie the score at one. Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation, so they headed to overtime.
In overtime, neither team could get anything going as only a total of three shots were taken by both teams. As the game ended in at 1-1.
Northwest's record moves to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. Northwest returns to Bearcat Pitch tomorrow to take on non-conference foe Minnesota-Duluth at 2 p.m.
