Bearcats lose tough match to Rockhurst, 2-1
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to regionally ranked Rockhurst University, 2-1 on Tuesday at Bearcat Pitch.
In the first half, the Lady Hawks controlled the ball most of the time. They scored in the third minute off of throw-in that was headed into the right corner by Molly Wiman. Not but 10 minutes later Rockhurst found the back of the net again as Kelly Fitzpatrick beat the Bearcats goal keeper and took the 2-0 going into halftime.
In second half, Northwest managed to find the back of the net for the first time in 348 minutes. It started when Jamie Campell (Fr., Co. Antrim, N. Ireland) found Emily Perkins (Fr., W. Des Moines, Iowa) cutting to the goal. Perkins jumped kicked the ball into the back left corner to beat the Lady Hawks goal keeper. That was Perkins second goal of the season. But following that goal the Bearcats could not get anything by the Rockhurst goal keeper as the game ended, 2-1.
Northwest drops to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Rockhurst improves to 5-2 on the season.
Northwest returns to Bearcat Pitch this weekend as they host conference foe Missouri-Rolla on Saturday at 1 p.m. The 'Cats also play host to Minnesot-Duluth on Sunday at 2 p.m.
