Bearcats Lose in overtime to Central, 1-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Central Missouri State in overtime, 1-0 on Wednesday in Warrensburg.
In the first half, the Bearcats were just trying to keep Central from
scoring. Alison Sheridan (Fr., Lake Tapawingo, Mo.) made some great saves to keep Central from putting a goal on the board. The Jennies were in the attack mode for most of the first half as they out-shot Northwest 9-4. Central also tallied eight corner kicks to the 'Cats zero.
In the second half, Northwest was the team attacking the net. Northwest had many chances put just could not get the ball by Cental's goal keeper. With neither team able to score they headed to overtime. In the 96th minute Central's Michele Gonzalez headed the ball into the right corner of the net to give the Jennies a 1-0 victory.
The Bearcats were led by Jamie Campbell (Fr., Co. Antrim, N. Ireland) who had five shots two that were on goal. Sheridan had four saves in net for the 'Cats. Northwest drops to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Northwest will be on the road again this week as they will travel to nationaly ranked Truman State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
