Women's Soccer Splits Matches in South Dakota
The Northwest Missouri State University soccer team traveled to Augustana (S.D.) and Northern (S.D.) State Friday and Saturday. The Bearcats pulled out a 3-2 victory over Augustana in their season-opener, but dropped a 2-1 decision to Northern State the following day.
Against Augustana, the Bearcats started the scoring early in the contest when Lidnsay Schubert (Fr., Buckner, Mo.) took a pas from Emily Perkins (Fr., W. Des Moines, Iowa) and dribbled 20 yards to put Northwest in the lead 1-0. Augustana tied the score in the 30th minue at 1-1 when Erin Seidel put the ball into the left corner.
The Bearcats put another goal on the board when Jill Anderson (Sr., Gladstone, Mo.) rebounded Perkins corner kick and booted it in the back of the net. Augustana tied it back up at 2-2 with a long goal from 30 yards out. Schubert added her second goal of the contest off a deflection to put the 'Cats ahead for good.
Against Northern State, the Bearcats dropped a a low-scoring affair, 2-1.
After a long first half for both teams with no scoring, Northwest scored the first goal in the 53rd minute. Perkins found Rory Okey (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) cutting to the goal where Okey put it in the back of the net for the early lead 1-0.
Following the Bearcats goal Nothern State put two goals in the back of the net in a span of 31 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. Northern State made the two goals stand up and took the one-goal victory.
The Bearcats are off this next week but will return to action on September 10 against first-year squad Washburn at Bearcat Pitch. The Bearcats will host non-conference for Graceland (Iowa) on September 14.
