'Cats Fall in Home Finale, 5-1 to Truman State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Truman State, 5-1 on Sunday at Bearcat Pitch.
Truman came out quick in the first half when in the second minute Lauren Cepicky scored kicking the ball in the near corner. Northwest came back with a goal of their own when Tiffany Robertson (Fr., Maryville, Mo.) crossed the ball over to Becky Marston headed the ball into the back of the net to tie the score up a one. That was Marston's second goal of the season. In the 15th minute Truman found the back of the net again when Robyn Mortenson scored from 20 yards out to give Truman a 2-1 lead. The scored stayed the same as the teams went to break.
In the second half, Truman started the second half with a three goals in the first five minutes. Ellen Wright started the scoring off when the ball slipped under Bearcat goal keeper Danielle Lawless (Jr., Denison, Iowa). Robyn Mortenson scored her second of the game int he 49th minute and then Wright scored her second goal of the match as the Bulldogs took a commanding lead, 5-1. The Bearcats didn't get many more chances in the game as Truman went on to a 5-1 win.
That was the last home game for five seniors, Jill Anderson (Gladstone, Mo.), Christine Collins (Council Bluffs, Iowa), Joni Pusateri (Belton, Mo.), Brandy Sonnichsen (Denison, Iowa) and Sarah Wallace (Raymore, Mo.).
Northwest's record falls to 2-13-4 overall and 1-8-4 in the MIAA. The Bearcats will end the season on the road against Missouri Southern on Wednesday.
