'Cats Fall to Lady Blues, 4-1
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Washburn Univeristy, 4-1 on Wednesday.
The Bearcats came out with an early goal when Rory Okey (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) beat three Lady Blue defenders and their goalie to score the first goal of the match. That was Okey's third goal of the season, and ended Northwest's scoreless streak at 322 minutes. The Bearcats had a chance to take a 2-0 lead, but Beth Gutschenritter's (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) penalty kick was stopped by Washburn's goalie. That was all the 'Cats could do in the first half. Washburn ended the first half with a bang as they connected twice in a three minute span to take the lead 2-1 at halftime.
The Bearcats came out in the second half, and struggled. Washburn put two quick goals up on the 'Cats in the second half to take a commanding lead, 4-1. Northwest could not get many more shots off as the Lady Blues stopped the 'Cats from scoring to take the victory, 4-1.
Northwest's record falls to 2-7-3 overall and 1-3-3 in the MIAA. The Bearcats will be on the road this weekend as they will travel to Emporia State on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
