'Cats Fall to Winona State, 1-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Winona State on Sunday at Bearcat Pitch, 1-0.
The Bearcats missed a few opportunities early in the first half, but Winona State's goal keeper made some great saves to keep the 'Cats scoreless. Emily Perkins (Fr., W. Des Moines, Iowa) had a great shot but was saved by Winona's goal keeper. Winona State had one great shot and that was the one that got by Northwest's goal keeper Danielle Lawless (Jr., Denison, Iowa). Winona's Amy Budish shot came from 25 yards out and carried over Lawless's head in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half neither team could find the back of the net as both goal keeper's played great defense. Northwest had one shot go off the post from Beth Gutschenritter (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) and the crossbar from Kristi Potee (Jr., Independence, Mo.). The Bearcats had 18 shots compared to Winona State's nine, but could not find the net as Winona won, 1-0.
Northwest's record falls to 2-11-4 overall and 1-6-4 in the MIAA. The Bearcats return to action next Saturday against Southwest Baptist and again on Sunday against Truman State both at Bearcat Pitch.
