'Cats and Jennies Tie, 2-2
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team tied with Central Missouri State, 2-2 on Friday at Bearcat Pitch.
The Jennies scored first as Teleshia Joesph beat Bearcat goal keeper (Danielle Lawless Jr., Denison, Iowa) to take the lead, 1-0. The Bearcats came back with a little offense themselves when freshman Beth Gutschenritter (Fr., Omaha, Neb) beat the Jennies defenders down the sideline, then beat their goal keeper to tie the score up a one.
That was not all the scoring from Gutschenritter beacuse she score a goal on an amazing shot 40 seconds later. Gutschenritter scored her second goal of the game when Katie Flower (Jr., Blackjack, Mo.) passed it to her and she slipped the ball between the near post and the Jennies goal keeper to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead. Northwest had another shot but Tiffany Robertson's (Fr., Maryville, Mo.) shot bounced off the post to keep the score 2-1 going into halftime.
Neither team did much to start the second half. Central scored a goal late in the second half to tie it a two. The Bearcats missed a few opportunities to take the lead back, but could not convert. So the teams headed to overtime tied at two.
In overtime, the Bearcats missed four chances to win the game, but could not get the ball by the Jennies goal keeper. The game ended in double overtime, 2-2
Northwest's record moves to 2-9-4 overall and 1-5-4 in the MIAA. The Bearcats return to action next Wednesday at Bearcats Pitch against Emporia State.
